Occupation: Pediatrician and Behavioral Medicine in Orland Park.

I live in Homer Glen with my wife Karen for the last 16 years. We have 6 children between us and 16 grandchildren.

Parish: Our Lady of the Woods and presently Our Mother of Good Counsel.

Hobbies: Gardening, Model Trains, and Magic

My name is Jennifer Burke, and I am running for parish council. My family and I have been parishioners at Our Mother of Good Counsel for 8 years, and I look forward to being a part of helping our parish continue to grow and to be examples of the love of our Lord Jesus.

I was born into the Catholic faith through my parents, Gail and Mitchell Bialas. I attended Catholic school at Saint Clare de Montefalco in Chicago until 4th grade, and then our family moved to Homer Glen. My sister, my brother, and I attended Saints Cyril and Methodius school in Lemont through 8th grade. I was a part of that parish throughout high school until I left for college and moved to downtown Chicago to attend the University of Illinois at Chicago. I visited multiple parishes throughout my college career an finally joined Old Saint Patrick's church when I bought a home in River North. I pursued a Doctorate degree in pharmacy, and I currently work at Rush University Medical Center as a pharmacist on the overnight shift.

I met my husband in 2005, and we have been married now for 11 years. We have three beautiful children -- Abby who is 9, Jimmy who is 7, and Maddie who is 2. We moved here to Homer Glen when our oldest was born, and we are currently living in the subdivision right behind church. My youngest two children were baptized at OMGC and the two older ones are not attending Religous Education through the church. Abby just celebrated her First Holy Communion on May 5th.

My children are the loves of my life. My wish for the was the feel the same love and community I remember from my parishes growing up. I look forward to furthering their experiences here at Our Mother of Good Counsel and playing a part in making those experiences ones they will remember.

Thank you for your time and God bless you.

My name is Mary Flanagan, and I absolutely love being a Catechist at Our Mother of Good Counsel Church. When our family moved here, to what is now known as Homer Glen, in 1995 we originally belonged to St. Bernardís Parish. And, we then joined Our Mother of Good Counsel Church shortly af-ter our church was built. My husband and I will be married 51 years this month and we have two sons Ė Sean and Michael Ė who, along with their wives have blessed us with six wonderful grandchildren rang-ing in age from 5 years old to 24 years old.

As our children and grandchildren donít all live close to us, we often miss seeing and enjoying time with them. Then, one day I realized I could still have children around me to enjoy. All I had to do was answer the call to volunteer as a Catechist. So, approximately 8 years ago, I answered the call and became a Religious Educa-tion Aide for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade classes for 4 years. After taking a short break. I came back and again last year and be-came a Catechist for a 2nd grade class. This year I have the joy and honor to teach and prepare a 3rd grade class for their First Holy Communion.

Many of you may ask what I get out of this experience being a Catechist. Well, all I can say is being around these children and not only teaching them about God by asking and answering questions, creating activities, crafts, and games that deepen their understanding of what it means to be a Catholic and strengthening their relationship with Jesus; but, to also witness the innocent eyes of each child as they comprehend what they are learning is extremely enlightening in a way you just canít understand until you witness it yourself. And, words cannot express how this enlightening has helped to deepen my own faith as well.

Yes, I have truly been blessed with a wonderful family, consisting of children and grandchildren of my own. But, now I have been doubly blessed by the sharing of your children in the Religious Education Program at Our Mother of Good Counsel. Thank you and my God Bless all of you for giving me this chance to know you and your beautiful children. Finally, as a member of the Evangelical Faith Formation Committee (EFFC) at Our Mother of Good Counsel, I have also been given the opportunity to know more about our parish and share in the joy of assisting in making our parish even better. While, at the same time, I have also had the opportunity of meeting many wonderful volunteers and sharing their experi-ences. It is because of my love of Our Mother of Good Counsel Parish and all its parishioners that I would be only too happy to serve on the Parish Counsel and join in making our parish the absolute best it can be.
